History of this mute
1958 the Swedish inventor and entre- preneur Gunnar Ullvén met the world famous trumpeter John Birk’s ”Dizzy” Gillespie at the jazz club Nalen in Stockholm. Dizzy went there after playing at the Stockholm Concert Hall, with the ”Jazz at the Philharmonic”, and Mr Ullvén to show him this trum- pet mute. Mr Gillespie instantly fell in love with Ullven’s trumpet mutes, made in Chrome Plated Copper, so much that he from then on always used these mutes for the rest of his formidable career. Gunnar Ullvén and Dizzy Gillespie madean agreement that the mutes came to bear his name and be equal to his ”Be-Bop Sound.”
CHARACTERISTICS:
The Original Ullvén "Dizzy" Cup Mute with an adjustable cup will cover all you need.
Can be all from a tight cup soft warm, to an open bright crispy sound, rich in overtones and perfect pitch.
The Cup can be used as a plunger and without the cup, the torpedo / Straight part becomes a nice "Straight" mute.
With this mute the brass player may cover 90% of the requirements and it gives the soloist a greater spacesound.
NOTE:
All Ullvén mutes are delivered with oversized corks that has to be filed or cut, to fit each individual Instrument. This is important for best intonation and sound. It is advantageously recommended that the cork would be adjusted so that the Mute fit deep into the Instrument Bell.
