Information about Mute model 342:
The "Dizzy Bop Mute", "Popy BOP Mute" and "Copper BOP Mute” was originally made and delivered with a roll of Felt in the hole, to hold and fix the Stem-cup. We still make the mute like this, however, for more open sound and free-blowing feel, it may be advantageously replaced with a similar roll of Rubber-Cork or Synthetic Cork material.
This will be supplied from us either with the mute or on request from you.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with this, and as a costumer, you are most welcome to contact us for any question regarding our Mutes, corks, etc.

I'm glad these mutes are named after me."
-Dizzy Gillespie
History of this mute
1958 the Swedish inventor and entre- preneur Gunnar Ullvén met the world famous trumpeter John Birk’s ”Dizzy” Gillespie at the jazz club Nalen in Stockholm. Dizzy went there after playing at the Stockholm Concert Hall, with the ”Jazz at the Philharmonic”, and Mr Ullvén to show him this trum- pet mute. Mr Gillespie instantly fell in love with Ullven’s trumpet mutes, made in Chrome Plated Copper, so much that he from then on always used these mutes for the rest of his formidable career. Gunnar Ullvén and Dizzy Gillespie madean agreement that the mutes came to bear his name and be equal to his ”Be-Bop Sound.”
CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a classic Ullvén mute, with adjustable cup-stem, for solo or section use wherever it is needed in any style of music. (It is similar to a "Harmon style" mute but with a sound of its own.)
Perfect in tune in all registers.
Beautiful warm sound with rich overtones. (The name Dizzy Bop Mute replace the old name "Mufti".)
NOTE:
All Ullvén mutes are delivered with oversized corks that has to be filed or cut, to fit each individual Instrument. This is important for best intonation and sound. It is advantageously recommended that the cork would be adjusted so that the Mute fit deep into the Instrument Bell.

Maynard Ferguson Plays his Dizzy BOP Mute, the on Dizzy Gave him as a present
Note how deep into the bell the mute is fitted, and he has the lack of felt in the hole because Dizzy didn't have that when he gave it to Maynard. This makes the lowest register slightly difficult to play, but the sound is more open and unique.
